A Pair of Polished Cast Iron Stools
By Cricheley, Wright and Co. England Circa 1860
These rare Renaissance inspired X form stools were made between 1859 and 1861 by the partnership of George Wright, George Wilton Chambers and Henry Crichley, then based in Barton Mills, Sheffield.
Originally designed with a solid rail between the arms and a columnar back rest, as can be seen in the original patent drawing, it appears these were never put into production and instead the more sculptural form of the present pair was settled upon.
