A fine pair of bedside tables by Maison Krieger
France, circa 1910
Richly veneered in exceptionally figured amboyna, with linear marquetry, gilt bronze handles and brocatelle marble tops. Each table has a single drawer, above a Carrara marble lined cupboard.
A very fine and attractive pair of bedside tables, with rare veneers and showing cabinet-making of the finest quality. The unusually innovative design shows the influence of the concurrent French Art Nouveau as well as the more restrained European styles of the Viennese Secession.
Maison Krieger were one of the pre-eminent Parisian cabinet-making firms of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, whose work consciously sought to emulate the 18th century masters in style as well as quality. This pair of very practical bedside cabinets are notable for their innovative style, rather than being a reproduction or re-interpretation of an existing, celebrated model.
Materials
Amboyna, Fruit Woods, Birch and Marble
